July 2019 TBR // Not-so-summer reads?

July 13, 2019 Kate (Reading Through Infinity)8 Comments

This is (ever so slightly) belated since we’re already 13 days into July but I’m excited to share the books I want to read for the rest of the month. And a sneaky few books that I may or may not have already read. Quite a few of these aren’t your typical ‘summer reads’, but… Continue reading July 2019 TBR // Not-so-summer reads?

Reading Through Infinity

Hello, I’m Kate! I blog about books, with a little bit of travel, anime, k-dramas, and veganism on the side. My favourite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, and manga, and I’m a big YA reader. I love tea and milkshakes. V.E Schwab is my queen. #WeNeedDiverseBooks

Which recent releases are you looking forward to reading? ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ซ Penguin Random House were kind enough to send me a copy of The Guinevere Deception, and I can't wait to pick it up! I love books, films, and TV shows based on the Arthurian legend so I have a feeling I'm going to LOVE this. It blends fantasy and feminism with action and mystery, which is just my kind of book. Huge thanks to @prhinternational for this copy; The Guinevere Deception is out now! ๐Ÿ’ž . . . . #theguineveredeception #prh #kierstenwhite #yabookstagram #yafantasy #guinevere #arthurianlegend #kingarthur #penguinrandomhouse #prhinternational #arthurianliterature #bookblogger #readingthroughinfinity #andidarken #merlinandarthur #bookaesthetic #coverartwork
*whispers* Did you know I like Victoria Schwab? ๐Ÿคฉ Last month I went to Barcelona and I searched high and low in one of the biggest bookshops for a Spanish copy of Vengeful. Just as I was as about to give up all hope because I could find it (I'd spent 30 minutes looking, to no avail), my Mum plucks the book at the front of the shelf off its perch, and there it is, sitting behind. ๐Ÿ˜‚ And I'm so glad she found it because I absolutely love these covers. They're so imaginative and elegant. Have you ever found a book after hunting for ages in a bookstore? . . . . #vicious #vengeful #tss #veschwab #victoriaschwab #spanishbooks #barcelona #spanishedition #schwabstagram #adsom #ireadya #bookblogger #readingthroughinfinity #bookcoverdesign #bookstagramuk #yabookstagram #bookstores #ourdarkduet
There are lots of things I'm excited for in the next month and one of them is picking up Reverie! I was lucky enough to win an arc of this at YALC from @fairyloot and it sounds excellent. ๐Ÿ“š Reverie follows Kane Montgomery as he tries to figure out how he ended up being pulled out of a river, half-dead, by the police. Along the way he discovers unimaginable worlds that start to appear out of nowhere at every turn. ๐Ÿ“š Reverie releases on December 3rd! What are you looking forward to reading next month? . . . . #reverie #yafantasy #newreleases #decemberbooks #bookstagramuk #bookblogger #readingthroughinfinity #ryanlasala #sourcebooks #booknerdigans #ireadya #yalc #somanybooksolittletime #fantasybooks
Today is my stop on the War Girls tour, hosted by @darkroomtours! Thanks to Darkroom Tour for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! ๐Ÿ’ซโš” Two sisters are torn apart by war and must fight their way back to each other in a futuristic, Black Panther-inspired Nigeria. ๐Ÿ’ซโš” Three reasons to read War Girls: ๐ŸŒŸ Feminism ๐ŸŒŸ Warrior sisters ๐ŸŒŸ Technological prowess This book is fast-paced, immersive, and thrilling. Our main characters Onyii and Ify are sisters with an close bond. Onyii is fierce, strong-willed and intensely protective of her little sister. She's at the forefront of the action and has earned her nicknamed 'the Demon of Biafra' in battle. She pilots her mech with precision, speed, and vicious accuracy. Ify, on the other hand, is younger and more innocent. She loves learning and building pieces of tech that are far beyond her age. She struggles to make friends because the other girls see her as different, but enjoys the company of her and Onyii's droid, Enyemaka, a maternal figure. When Onyii and Ify are torn apart during a raid on their camp, their bond is shattered. Ify is taken to Nigeria where she becomes a student and grows into an academic, knowledge-driven teen. She no longer sees Nigerians as the enemy in the same way Onyii does, which causes a rift between them. I enjoyed Ify's gentle, hopeful outlook on life and her interactions with Daren made me chuckle. But I felt sad for Onyii, whose rage and desire for revenge begin to change her into an unrecognisable person. The pacing of War Girls is fast, but it suits the book's action-heavy plot. I really liked the world-building because the technology was futuristic, but believable, and could feel the inspiration from Black Panther running through some of the settings. Tochi Onyebuchi's writing style is distinctive and the third person present tense narrative suits this story because everything feels like it's happening in the moment. I enjoyed the flight sequences and I definitely didn't see some of the twists coming. If you loved Black Panther then I'd definitely recommend this!
Happy release day to Hannah Moskowitz and Sick Kids in Love! HUGE thanks to @entangledteen and @entangled_publishing for gifting me a copy of this beautiful book! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’ž They even sent me a notebook themed around the novel, candy hearts, and a letter from the author, AND it came in a box designed like the book cover! A 10/10 piece of book mail. ๐Ÿ˜ This is a story about two teenagers with chronic illnesses, who start to have feelings for each other and have to decide whether or not to pursue them. This is one of my most anticipated reads of 2019 so I'm excited to pick it up! ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿงก Which new releases are you excited for? . . . . #sickkidsinlove #chronicillness #hannahmoskowitz #entangledteen #yacontemporary #bookstagramuk #bookblogger #readingthroughinfinity #chronicpainawareness #yabookstagrammer #entangledpublishing #booknerds #readingeverywhere #readerscorner
I just watched the first episode of His Dark Materials on BBC and it was so good. ๐Ÿ’ซ I haven't been this excited for a new fantasy drama in a long while and it's making me want to pick up more fantasy books, like Gideon the Ninth. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ What have you been watching recently? . . . . #gideontheninth #gideon #fantasybooks #fantasyseries #hisdarkmaterials #thenorthernlights #thegoldencompass #tvshows #tamsynmuir #torbooks #bbcdrama #necromancy #queerromance #lgbtqia #lesbiannecromancers #gayromance #queerbooks #booknerdigan #bookstagramuk #bookblog #readingthroughinfinity #readersofinsta
