Books I need to read before the end of 2021

So far in 2021, I’ve read 111 books, but there are still a lot that I’d like to read before the end of the year. Especially books I’ve been meaning to read since the summer.

But I’m trying to be realistic. We’re almost into December and I know that I’m not going to be able to read the 30 (or so) books I’d like to put on this list. So I’d chosen the books that I’m most keen/desperate/wired to read and a few that I should have really read earlier in the year. (Guilty.)

Iron Widow

This is one of my current reads and I’m pleased to report (to all the Iron Widow stand out there) that I’ll definitely have it finished before the end of the year (before the end of November if I keep this pace up). I’m completely captivated by this story and I can’t wait to see how it ends. But I’m also already stressing about the fact that I’m going to have to wait a year for the sequel. Help.

Jade City

This has been on my TBR for the longest time and with the final book in the trilogy releasing in December, I’m keen to get to this and Jade War before the end of 2021. But because both books are over 500 pages, I’m not sure if this will actually happen. The irony is, I know that if I read this on audio, I’d have it finished in a few days, but I really want to read my paperback copy, so I’m sticking with that medium and we’ll see if I actually get to it next month.

Our Violent Ends

I was lucky enough to get approved for an e-arc of this and now that it’s out in the world, I’d really like to read it soon. These Violent Delights is also still fresh in my mind so now would be the best time to pick up my copy. The only problem is, I’m in more of a romance mood at the moment…

Daughter of the Moon Goddess

This is another book I was lucky enough to receive an e-arc for (and Hollie has kindly leant me her physical arc too) and it releases in January, so ideally I want to pick it up in December. Especially because it’s one of my more anticipated releases for next year.

The Jasmine Throne

I got half way through this book about 5 months ago, put it down for a break, and I haven’t picked it up since, so I need to finish it before the end of 2021. There’s no excuse really, it’s a great fantasy and I was really enjoying it so I’m not sure why I haven’t gone back to it before now.

The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels

You know when you buy a book and you think that, for once, you’re actually going to read it straight away? Well that was me with this book. I treated myself to it earlier in the year because it sounded like exactly the kind of historical romance I’d enjoy, but I still haven’t read it yet?

I think this is partly because I’ve read a lot of audiobooks this year and not as many physical books (and I have a physical copy of this) but I’ll have a break over Christmas, so plenty of time for reading physical copies.

Jade Fire Gold

I was kindly gifted an ARC of this by the publisher a couple of months ago and since the book came out this month, I want to read it soon, especially because it’s been high up my TBR for ages.

So, these seven books are paperbacks (and one e-book) that I’m hoping to read before the end of the year.

Are there any books you want to read before 2021 is over? Are there any of these I should prioritise?

  1. I’m really not that great with big books. They take me what feels like forever, but I SO want to read the entire Jade series. It’s not even funny anymore. I saw character art and just wanted it all the more BUT I DON’T HAVE TIME *sobs*

  2. Good luck with your reading plans, Kate! 🥰 I haven’t read any of the books on your list, but I heard good things about them! One book I finally want to read before 2021 is The Bear and the Nightingale as it’s perfect for winter ❄
