Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme is:
March 30: Ten Signs You’re a Book Lover
This is going to be a fun one. There are a lot of signs I’m a booklover, from my tweets to my library visits, but I’ve tried to pick a few of the funniest or most relatable.
I have five library cards
No, I’m not joking. I have library cards from when I lived in the north east, library cards from when I was at university, and my two current library cards. What can I say, I just love using libraries???
I have bookish earrings
My friend knows how much I love books, so she bought me a pair of Great Gatsby earrings for my birthday a few years ago.
They’re the colour of the original blue cover and have the entire blurb printed on the back in 0.004 size font. I love them and people often comment on them when I wear them out and about, which is really sweet.
My Twitter is just full of tweets about books
I love talking about books on all my platforms, and it’s really fun to interact with authors and publishers on Twitter. I enjoy promoting new releases and the books I’ve loved, as well as polling people to find out which book they think I should read next.
Basically Twitter is a fun time and ‘Book Mode’ is always set to ON.
I’ve run out of space on my bookshelves any
Yep. Sadly, myshelves are FULL. I’ve still got some space at the very top and in my wardrobe, so we’re not at Code Red yet. But it’s getting dicey.
I don’t have space in my room for more shelves and my Dad keeps asking when I’m going to ‘get rid of some of those books’.
(The answer is never, I’m afraid.)
The staff at my local library know me personally because I’m in there so often
I love this about going into my library. One of the librarians knows me by name and always says hello whenever she seems me. (She also said she’d check out my blog when I mentioned it 😭) Two of the others always recognise me and give me that knowing look/nod, as if to say ‘ah, you’re back again’.
When it comes to birthdays and Christmas my parents always ask ‘Don’t you want anything other than books?’
The answer is often no, but they always ask me anyway. I think they’re hoping I’ll ask for other things so that I don’t fill up my shelves even more, but what can I say? I just love asking for books as presents. ❤
If I go for a weekend away, I always take at least 5 books, when I really only need 1
Picture the scene: It’s a Thursday night, I’m packing to do away for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We’ll be busy all weekend going places and doing things so I won’t have much time to read. I realistically only need one book. I place five in my bag.
I buy books faster than I can read them, and keep promising myself that I’ll ‘get to them eventually’
It’s an ongoing affliction. I just get so much enjoyment out of buying books. This means that whenever I go into a bookstore, I instantly forget about all the unread books on my shelves and the excitement of picking up something new takes over.
I think about my favourite characters and books constantly
Not a day goes by that I don’t think of at least one of Victoria Schwab’s books or characters. In fact, I probably think about Kell, Lila, Rhy, and Alucard every day. And I’m definitely thinking about The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue all the time at the moment (only 7 months until release).
I have multiple editions of my favourite books (and I’m still buying more but shhh)
If I love a book with my whole heart then I really like picking up multiple UK and international editions because I enjoyed it so much. Seeing the different covers and languages on my shelves brings me great joy. I also like looking up my favourite quotes in other languages and comparing the varying titles and designs.
What are the signs that you’re an avid book lover?
