December was a really good month for me in terms of new books. I was sent a few by publishers and I was lucky enough to get quite a few for Christmas. Prepare yourselves for a Haul™.
My boyfriend is an enabler when it comes to books. He bought me Spellslinger, which I’ve been wanting to pick up for a while, and The City and the City, which will be my first China Mieville book. My lovely friend Vicky @WhatVickyRead also got me a copy of More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera.
My parents got me this stunning edition of The Best We Could Do, which is an achingly beautiful graphic novel by Vietnamese author Thi Bui. My boyfriend The Enabler also got me volume 3 of Lumberjanes and volume 1 of Snotgirl, which I’ve been wanting to start for ages. The funniest part of this was that I also got him Snotgirl volume 1. We literally bought each other the same book without realising. But he couldn’t tell me this had happened until I got back from Germany and opened my presents.
My aunt was kind enough to get me this gorgeous Penguin clothbound edition of Vanity Fair, which is now the first clothbound edition I own (it’s over 900 pages, help). I’ve been wanting to read this since I watched the ITV adaptation last year, and decided that Christmas would be the perfect time to ask for it.
My parents also bought me the US box set of A Darker Shade of Magic, and I treated myself to the German edition of This Savage Song while I was away. The box set comes with a beautiful map of the four Londons that I’m so happy with, it might have it framed.
The wonderful people at My Kinda Book sent me an advance copy of Enchantee, and I won a competition to receive Sarah Ann Juckes debut novel, Outside (which I’ve since read and it’s an intense rollercoaster). (Both of these were gifted.)
Which books did you get over the holidays? Did you buy anything new as a treat?
