Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme is:
August 28: Back to School/Learning Freebie
For this week’s theme, I decided to share some of the best contemporary books I’ve read in the last few years that are set (at least partially) in high school, and represent the hardships and triumphs of being a teen in education.
I read contemporary less frequently than I read fantasy, but for me these books were some of the best in class (I’m so sorry) for representing the nuanced experiences of teens. Some of these books are about teens of colour, teens from different cultures, and LGBTQIAP+ teens, but all of them are well written, emotionally rich pieces of fiction.
What are your favourite high school contemporaries? Have you read any of the ones on this list?
