After visiting Sweden last weekend and having a wonderful time, I’ve got wanderlust once again. Stockholm is a city of beautiful architecture and it got me thinking about other European cities I want to visit.
Prague
Prague is somewhere that I’ve wanted to visit for a couple of years now, but it rose to the top of my list after reading the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. Laini Taylor describes the city’s beauty and quirks in such detail that I knew it would be somewhere I’d love. The architecture, churches, and indie coffee shops all sound idyllic.
Gothenburg
Gothenburg is a new addition to my bucket list after Anna @aliterarypotion visited earlier in the year and inspired me to go. Her photos and descriptions of the city were so stunning that it’s definitely high on my list. It looks like a semi-gothic land of fairy tales and I’m all about that aesthetic.
Bratislava
I originally stumbled across the beautiful streets of Bratislava when I was searching for a hotel in Shropshire (long story) and found this image. Needless to say, I immediately wanted to know where it was located, and then my research spiraled out of control when I realised the city has a castle, is pedestrian-only, and has numerous cycling and hiking routes.
Berlin
I have family who live in Germany, so I’ve been there a few times, but I’ve yet to go to Berlin and apparently it’s wonderful. One of my friends recently recommended it as a little haven for vegan and vegetarian restaurants, which surprised me since I know how famous Germany is for enjoying meat. I’d also love to go to the Brandenburg Gate, and some of the many museums Berlin has on offer.
Meteora
My desire to go to Meteora in Greece sprung from seeing this image and reading about hilltop monasteries. There are six main monasteries in the Meteora area that have been lived in on and off since the 9th century. Although I’m not sure if members of the public are allowed inside, I would love to hike through the surrounding hills just to see them. Imagine all of the writing inspiration.
Which places are on your travel bucket list? Do you have a #1 top destination? Or have you been to any of these cities? Let me know!
I love this post. I’ve really been caught by the travel bug recently and so many of these cities are on my to visit list. Prague, Stockholm, and Berlin are at the top of that list. I just love the history in European cities. I definitely plan on visiting them at some point. Right now, I’m saving up for my Canadian adventure. 😀
Aww thanks so much Lois! Yeah, I’ve definitely been feeling the wanderlust since I came back from Sweden, and also because it’s a year this month since I went to Japan. Stockholm is stunning, so I’d definitely recommend it, and Prague is probably top of this list. My friend and I are making plans to go next spring, so hopefully I won’t have to wait too much longer to see it, and I hope you don’t either! Oooh Canada sounds amazing! Where in particular are you hoping to go?
I’m focusing on the Toronto/Ottawa area this time around. I have family not far from Toronto so I’ll pop down and see them as well.
Wowwww that sounds wonderful! I hope you have a great time and enjoy seeing your family! 🙂
Oh great post Kate, and this has definitely inspired some serious wanderlust in me. The only one of these cities I’ve been to is Prague but I loved it. It was reading the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy that made me want to visit the city too, it literally rose to the top of my must-visit list as well the second I finished the first book. I hope you manage to make it there one day, and to the rest of the cities on your list as well.
Again great post. 🙂 ❤
Thanks Beth! Yessss, Prague sounds wonderful, I’m happy you got to see it, and I hope I do too next year! Anywhere else you want to go? 🙂
I’ll keep my fingers crossed you make it next year then.
Oh there are so many places I want to go. It would take me too long to list them all so I’ll just say I want to go everywhere! 😀
Brilliant post with some stunning destinations!
I’d recommend krakow in Poland- it’s incredible.
Thank you so much! Yes Krakow sounds wonderful, I’ll have to look it up and add it to the bucket list!
All of these cities seem amazing and I would love to visit all of them as well! 😀 My next travel destination will hopefully be Prague, but I have no idea when I will have time to travel there. Great post! 🙂
Oh wow, that’s so exciting that you’re going to Prague! I hope you have a brilliant time, and you’ll have to let me know what it’s like since I’m hoping to go next year too! 😀
Ohh this is such a great post, Kate, I love it 🙂 you’re so lucky you went to Sweden, I so want to visit this country someday. I’d also love to see Prague, Berlin and Copenhagen as well! 🙂
I’ve heard so many good things about Prague. I’m hoping that I can check it off this list sometime this summer.
