The Friday 56

The Friday 56: Invictus

I’m so glad it’s Friday! Even though it’s been a short week (we had a public holiday in the UK on Monday) I’m excited that the weekend is here and I can spend some time catching up on blogging and TV shows.

The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. The idea is to share an excerpt from a book you’ve been reading every Friday, to promote the book or simply just to showcase your current read!

Friday56

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s OK.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple

I started Invictus this morning on my commute so today’s Friday 56 quote is from there. I’ve been looking forward to reading this book ever since I was lucky enough to get an ARC at YALC, and so far it’s not disappointed.

Invictus

Far turned to face the man. “I don’t believe in luck.”
“Then I’m doubly fortunate.” The black marketer’s grin was as wan as the rest of him, crowded with canines. “A man who doesn’t believe  in luck works twice as hard. If someone did sabotage your Sim, you should be thanking them. Souls like yours were never meant for Corps work. Did you really want to spend your life picking flowers for the Central Board of Agricultural Rehabilitation? Filming parties and battles for perpetually discontented datastream addicts? No Farway McCarthy. You would have choked to death on Corps’ protocol.

So far this book seems great. Time travel adventures, characters you can immediately invest in, and a plot that thickens by the page. I’m really excited to see where this story goes.

What are you guys reading this weekend? Is Invictus on your September TBR? Let me know!

Until next time, Kate

  1. I really hope you continue to enjoy this book Kate. I finished Invictus last week and loved it; it was everything I’d hoped it would be and more. I’ll be looking forwards to seeing what you think of this one. Great quote as well. 🙂

      1. It definitely gets better, I rated this book five stars because I don’t think there was anything about it I didn’t enjoy. I agree with you about the world-building, it was really well set up and that’s something I highlighted in my review. 🙂
